According to ASEAN-SEAFDEC special projects, the first phase of digitized atlas program focused on information dissemination of the current fisheries situation including results from the collaborative research programme on the marine resource surveys in the South China Sea.
Collaborative Program
The idea of a collaborative research program carried out between TD and MFRDMD on marine resources was initiated in 1994. This had the objective of collecting and analyzing data necessary for the management of fisheries resources and the protection of the environment at a regional level, also to train researchers from member countries on modern research methodologies. Up to the present time, both SEAFDEC departments have continued the second and third phases of collaboration in fishery resources surveys. These surveys using M.V.SEAFDEC and local research vessels in the waters of the Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia under the three-year collaborative research project for 1998-2000. The first phase of this collaborative project undertaken between TD and MFRDMD was conducted in the waters of Thailand, Malaysia, Brunei during 1994-1997.
